Career History

Bucky started his racing career in 1956 as a spectator, then
when he was old enough he raced with his brother Walt Austin.
He got his own car in 1968, a Top Gas Dragster. He raced sporatically
in the early years and then moved into the Pro Comp classes.
From 1974-1981 he raced FE injected nitro and then blown alcohol
rear engined dragsters. He moved into the Funny Cars, a class
that suited his fiery attitude. He cut his teeth not only racing
the NHRA but also in the AHRA at Spokane Washington and Seattle.
In 2004 Bucky set the Division six standard with 42 divisional
wins breaking Jerry 'The King' Ruth's record that stood for
35 years.

Career Highlights

Bucky won his first Divisional event in 1978 at Mission Raceway
and won his first national event in 1989 at Seattle's Fall Nationals.
He also won the "Golden Gate Nationals" in 1986, a
race that featured booked in Top Fuel and Funny Cars and a divisional
event. He went to his first National event final round in 1985.
He also raced alot in the AHRA which had prominence in the North
West at Spokane Raceway park as well a various other facilities,
including SIR and Portland for a time. He won the AHRA Funny
Car World Championship four times. At Firebird Raceway, he has
garnered four "Ignitor Opener" titles, and has won
the "Canadian National Open" at Mission Raceway twice.
His round win total over his career is close to 300 combining
national, divisional and match racing. He is the only driver
to win every national event currently run on the West Coast.
They include the "Winternationals" (Pomona), the "Summit
Nationals" (Vegas), the "Pep Boys 50th Nationals"
(Pomona), the "Autolite Nationals" (Sonoma), the "Northwest
Nationals" (Seattle), the "CSK Nationals" (Phoenix)
and the "Finals" (Pomona). Between 1998-1999 he won
five national events in a row that he entered.
